Understanding and Knowing
What is the difference between understanding and knowing?
When a person understands a matter, he/she will firstly be self motivated to do or not to do a certain action so as to help alleviate the situation or a matter.
When a person only knows a matter, he/she will firstly need to be constantly motivated by a 3rd party (friend or loved one), to do or not to do a certain action so as to help alleviate the situation or a matter.
Understanding involves reflection, digesting what is presented in front of you (the thoughts, comments, facts) and allowing it to form part of your renewed character.
Knowing only involves accepting what is presented in front of you (the thoughts, comments and facts) but not allowing it to form part of your renewed character.
So which of the 2 options is a better path to take in life?
The answer is obvious; understanding.
A person that chooses to understand will see their life changing; a person who chooses to know will only know.
I have been keeping this train of thought in my mind and always constantly reminding myself to understand; not just to know.
Friends, what I have to say is:
there is only so much a friend can do to help your situation.
there is only so much a friend can advice you.
there is only so much a 3rd party can do to help.
the rest (90%) is up to you.
Now by choosing to understand, I see beyond the exterior but into the interior. I see that what is important is not what has happened but what I can do to make things better in the future.
If only everyone could understand their purpose in their respective time and season, then wouldn't the world be a better place?
Imagine:
Students are self motivated to study and work hard; without having teachers to breathe down their necks.
Working Adults are self motivated to do the best they can and not cut corners when their bosses are not looking.
Parents are self motivated to care for their children not just because they KNOW that they have to; but they understand WHY they have to care.
Many a times; having less is more. Having less means less distraction; increased focus.
If you are in the 'Know Things' category, its time to transit to the 'Understand Things' category.
For He understood His purpose, He endured the cross.
Cheers.
