Dare to Change - Experience His presence
Simply attending the services for the past 3 weeks will blow you away.
Although it is not a typical CHC service where there is a lot of bible flipping and verse referencing, yet it is still a message that is very thought provoking. For the past 3 weeks or so since the turn of the year, Pst has been sharing about the Cultural Mandate and why we need to engage the culture like never before. This series of messages have impacted me a lot personally and corrected many wrong thinkings and mindsets that I used to carry when I first became a Christian back in 2001.
Just want to list down a few points that really hit home:
1) Sacred/Secular Divide
In the past, especially during my NS days when I viewed everything I do in camp as 2nd class, unneccessary and redundant, I used to embrace this Sacred/Secular Divide mentality almost every single day. I will simply not do my best in camp but yet become another person when I was serving in choir on the weekends. Of course back then, I didn't realised that by doing so; I was so wrong in my mentality; until Pst shared this yesterday and then I was immediately reminded of my NS days.
No wonder; I got screwed so much when I was in camp and wondered why are Heavens closed above my life.
2) Vocation is a vocal calling from God
This 2nd point really hit home as much as the first one did. When Pst shared that Martin Luther once said that "All jobs; whether secular or non secular ones are callings from God", it simply reinforced the understanding that I have about working in a bank currently. If we were to go back a few years, the Glenn that you would know would simply take this as another job to earn a salary every month.
Thank God for a renewing mindset. Note that I used the word renewing instead of renewed because I am still a work in process (WIP). As I begin and continue to undertake more responsibilities at work and become more and more engaged, I am not afraid that I will be lost in the secular world but instead become more entrenched in the banking industry and ultimately shine for Him.
I will never forget that He always uses the base things of this world to glorify His name.
No one gave the following people a chance when they started out:
- Ms Nanz Chong Komo
- Ms Elim Chew
- Mr Nicholas Goh
But look at them now and you will know and understand how God works in our lives. :)
As we begin to engage the culture that we live in and excel in the different professions that we are working right now, we can be the salt and the light for Christ in this world.
Never despise small beginnings. I regret to say that I do despise small beginnings when I was younger; always wanting to experience success fast and now.
But as I grow as a believer, I started to realise that the laws of Sowing and Reaping doesn't just apply to non believers but believers as well. Everyone needs to sow a seed of hardwork to reap an ounce of harvest.
Although the start of 2007 has been a tumultous one for me personally, but I believe that everything that happens in my life has been set by Him according to His timing and purpose. And I truly believe that I will continue to stand on His promise and ultimately come back a stronger person.
Although at times, you might feel:
- Why are the people around you so harsh and demanding?
- Why are they always asking for more from you?
- Why do they seem so unconcerned about your needs in your life?
Ultimately, you still have a choice to make about your life; as much as I have to make a choice for myself.
To be better and stronger each day
Or
To be worse off and weaker each day.
To those who stood and am still standing by me till today, I just want to say THANK YOU.
Take care and till next time,
Glenn
