Disarray Thoughts : An Article
Disarray Thoughts
Let my mind fly.
Let my mind be one without boundaries and restrictions.
Let my mind be set free.
Free to express freedom and creativity.
Beyond any geographical, physical and mental restrictions.
Beyond the explored and ventured world of mankind.
But yet, let my mind be one that is filled and guided by the Holy Spirit
Let my mind fly.
Satisfaction. How can a man be satisfied in life? What does it mean to be truly satisfied with life?
A hermit will tell you that he is satisfied with life; life that is poor, living from hand to mouth, staying in a one room flat, separated from the rigors of society and hassle of everyday life. Amidst all his junk or ‘collectables’, and the unmistakable smell that surrounds and fills his enclosure, one might be forgiven to think that he isn’t mentally sound anymore to say what he has just said.
A wealthy businessman, on the other hand will yell you that he too is satisfied with life; a life that is rich and abundant, a life with the ability to command hundreds and thousands of people with a snap of his fingers, a life with never ending corporate struggles, countless backstabbing and scheming against others. Amidst all the pleasures and material accomplishments he had already achieved in this world, one might be forgiven too to think that he is a very satisfied and happy man.
In this world that we live in, one equates wealth to happiness; status to emotional elevation; material accomplishments to personal trophies; wives to sexual satisfaction machines; children to tax exemption bonuses; friends to stepping stones to a better career; and religion to yet another meaningless commitment every Sunday morning.
If the above mentioned paragraph is true, then every single high flyer in the corporate, academic, military strata of the society should be the most satisfied and happy person living around. But why is it that we still see successful and well off people, seeking pleasures; a momentarily high in taking drugs, in having a fling with their secretaries, in beating the red lights in their beemers and mercs?
Don’t they have the common sense; not to mention the high IQ level that they are supposed to have to know that this is wrong? That the consequences of living a double life will always have its price to pay?
Don’t they know that their private life is their public showcase?
Obviously they don't. Period.
The truth of the matter is; no one can be ever satisfied in their lives. Not today, not tomorrow, not even in the future.
In the bible, Satan tried to tempt Jesus 3 times in the wilderness by firstly promising Him the riches and glory of the world if He bows down and worship him. Secondly, he tempted Jesus to prove that He is the son of God by jumping off the cliff because angels will rescue Him anyway. Lastly, exasperated as he could be, he asked Jesus to turn stone into bread.
Now, what was Jesus's response? He said in Luke 4:4 "It is written; Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God"
What is the definition of the word "live"? The dictionary defines the word "live" as to stay alive. So by substituting the word “live” with its meaning into the verse listed above; we will get "Man shall not stay alive by bread alone but by every word of God".
The only source of satisfaction that every man can get in their lives is to know GOD and to walk with Him every single day of their lives. This is simply because salvation is for every single person on the face of the earth ever since the day Adam and Eve sinned against God and more importantly, we need to know God and walk with Him so that we can in turn walk in our purpose and destiny that has been created and placed in every single one of us. In addition, as we continue to walk with Him, to know and fellowship with Him daily, we will then be walking in our destinies and purpose.
After which, the by products would be wealth, riches and abundance.
Matt 6:33 "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added onto you."
Being an avid car-lover and enthusiast, I myself also long and wish to have a dream car of my own. To be able to zip around the city; to enjoy the air-con, music and my personal space while not missing out on the surrounding scenery of the urban landscape. I have also not made a secret of these desires of mine, often confessing it to my close friends.
But I too got to realize that having a car is not and must not be my final aim in life. Even settling down in future with my wife, having children and a successful career mustn’t be the final destination in my life. Because there is so much, so much more I could do for the kingdom of God. Sometimes when I look at young couples with their first child, the husband always seem to be so loving towards the wife and the child. On the other hand, when I look at families with grown up kids, the husband and wife often seem to be disgruntled and unhappy with one another.
Of course, there could also be opposites of the above 2 scenarios that I mentioned earlier. I feel that one of the reasons why this is happening is because the husband, being the head of the family, often views having a wife, children and a career to be their final destinations in their lives. Thus when this is already accomplished in their lives, they start to slacken in their efforts to build a truly happy and satisfied family, not just one where the material needs and desires of the family members are fulfilled.
And this is the root of most of the problems we face and see in society nowadays; as because every single person doesn't have an eternal view of their purpose and destiny in life.
As I am writing this article right now, I feel at ease in my spirit. Probably because I am using this avenue to express how I truly feel about being satisfied in life and the various opinions that was being expressed in this article itself.
The modern society that we live in has managed to substitute many of the symbols of happiness with temporal material pursuits; the latest gadget craze, the latest anti-bacterial fridge, the latest 50 inch plasma TV sets.
What has happened to the original purpose that God has created every single one of us for?
Must we be satisfied to become carbon copies of other people in society?
Certainly Not!
What then must we do to be satisfied in life?
